PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
The initial charge of the Professional Development Committee will be
to gather information on professional development opportunities for professional
staff at Binghamton, as well as to gather information on what activities
are currently taking place on other SUNY campuses. The committee will
also gather information from constituents on their professional development
needs.

1) TUITION WAIVER
- Available to all BU employees (except "casual")
- Limited by available resources (Usually 2 credit hours/semester for
full-time employees)
- Graduate classes must be claimed as taxable income
- No audits
- Must be successfully completed
- Advanced registration permitted
- Classes need to be justified for job relatedness
- Summer students pay up-front, get reimbursed (due to budget cycle)
- Spring students benefit from whatever financial resources are remaining
in the budget
- Course can be taken at any state operated campus (not Community College)
- Common application form used by all campuses
2) SPACE AVAILABLE
- Available to UUP members only
- Can be used at any state operated campus
- Can be used for Auditing classes
- Prohibits Thesis/dissertation/continuous registration
- Each campus has its application form and procedures
3) TUITION REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM
- Available for Management Confidential employees only
- Pays 75% of tuition, up to $750/yr (beginning March 31)
- Can be used at ANY agency accredited by NYS Education Dept.
- Student pays tuition up-front, gets reimbursed
Note: For conferences and job-related seminars, employee should
also approach their supervisor for departmental support. Any tuition reimbursement
for graduate course work is considered taxable income.
